Reuters reports BPA is linked to heart disease

A new Reuters article on BPA appeared this week. The item reports on a study led by David Melzer, professor of epidemiology and public health at the Peninsula Medical School in Exeter, which has linked BPA to heart disease.

Many U.S. environmental advocacy groups are pressing for a federal ban on the use of BPA, at present there are only regional bans on the chemical substance, whereas the Canadian government plans to totally outlaw the use of BPA in baby bottles.

Here in the UK we are still lagging behind. I blogged recently about how Breast Cancer UK have taken up the fight against the use of BPA as they believe there is “compelling evidence ” linking the chemical to the risk of breast cancer.

The Reuters article includes this quote from Dr. Anila Jacob of the Environmental Working Group, a non-profit organization :

There’s enough research to take definitive action on this chemical to reduce exposures in people and the environment

Many are especially concerned about the exposure of infants and children to BPA.
